Bad week for wrestling organizations. Earlier, Zahra Schreiber, WWE NXT Diva-in-Training, got canned for posting Nazi pics. Then there’s Hulk Hogan going around on his pity tour and apologizing for using the ‘N’ word. Today comes news that wrestling Hall of Famer, Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, has been charged with murder for the death of his ex-girlfriend.
A little background. Back in 1983, police found Snuka’s girlfriend at the time, Nancy Argentino, “gasping for air and oozing yellow fluid from her mouth and nose”. It happened after a WWF taping at the Allentown Fairground on May 10, 1983. She was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital and pronounced dead the next day. According to The Morning Call:
An autopsy determined she died of traumatic brain injuries and she suffered more than two dozen cuts and bruises — a possible sign of “mate abuse” — on her head, ear, chin, arms, hands, back, buttocks, legs and feet.
The autopsy also determined her injuries were consistent with being hit with a stationary object. In an autopsy report, forensic pathologist Isidore Mihalakis wrote the case should be investigated as a homicide until proven otherwise.
During questioning, Snuka gave conflicting reports about what happened to the 23-year old woman. He initially said he shoved her which caused her to fall and hit her head. Then he changed his story and claimed he was misunderstood. What he meant to say, at the time, was that she “slipped and hit her head when they stopped along the highway to urinate.” Somehow, Snuka was never charged with any crime and went free for the next 30-plus years. Until now.
The Lehigh County District Attorney reopened the case after The Morning Call’s investigation into the incident. During the investigation, a newly discovered autopsy declared the wounds consistent with trauma. This likely spurred D.A. Jim Martin to charge Snuka with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.
Stereoids anyone? We know steroids ran rampant during that era. Hulk Hogan even testified to it. Prosecutors alleged that Vince McMahon provided ‘roids to his wrestlers in an organized fashion. McMahon was after all, a man who declared around the time of Argentino’s wrongful death lawsuit,
“Look, I’m in the garbage business. If you think I’m going to be hurt by the revelation that one of my wrestlers is really a violent individual, you’re mistaken.”
Snuka is held with a $100,000 bail in county jail. Meanwhile, McMahon is close to a billionaire. McMahon’s the real criminal. He’s basically a pimp. He drugged up his stable of wrestlers with steroids. He sent them out to fight, not f**k. He also got rich in the process. If anyone needs to be charged, it’s Vince McMahon.
