Students at University of Texas, Austin are attaching dildos to their backpacks to protest a recent open carry law that allows students to carry firearms on campus. One thing you can’t carry: a dildo.
Senate Bill 11, which will allow guns on campus, will go into effect in August 2016. UT graduate Jessica Jin organized a Facebook event encouraging fellow students to carry dildos on their backpacks once the law goes into effect. So far 5,600 people have RSVP’d as attending, with 24,000 invited.
Jin writes on the event page,
“The State of Texas has decided that it is not at all obnoxious to allow deadly concealed weapons in classrooms, however it DOES have strict rules about free sexual expression, to protect your innocence. You would receive a citation for taking a DILDO to class before you would get in trouble for taking a gun to class. Heaven forbid the penis.”
Jin spoke to the Austin Chronicle about the reactions to the event, including threats on her life.
“People want me dead for a dildo. It’s the type of reaction that we could only hope to see from them when they hear of a child being gunned down in a classroom.”
