Ricky Gervais Hosting Golden Globes Again

Despite being all but banned from hosting the Golden Globes after having “crossed the line” according to Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s then-president Philip Berk, it’ll be Ricky Gervais’ fourth time hosting.

In the HFPA hosting announcement on Monday, current HFPA president Lorenzo Soria said,

“Ricky Gervais left us with a lasting impression, and we are thrilled to have him back in our show as we honor the best in film and television. His off-the-cuff wit and quirky charm will surely have the room and audiences around the world at the edge of their seats.”

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the Globes with great success for three years in a row following Gervais’ last hosting gig in 2012. I guess this could be the Golden Globes afraid that a new host won’t live up to the Fey and Poehler duo. Gervais’ three-year stint was the only consistent host of the show before, so they want him back. At least he guarantees a lot of attention and strong reactions the next day.

The impression I get from his tweets about the news is that he doesn’t plan on toning things down. At least let’s hope not.
