Robert De Niro Doesn’t Take Kindly to Condescension

Robert De Niro presented an award this week to Angelina Jolie at the WSJ Magazine Innovator Awards at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

Before his presentation, Stuart Butterfield, the CEO of Slack, made an acceptance speech that made mention of being in a room full of “supermodels and movie stars” and calling the award he just received the “nerd award.” Then, in a ballsy move, he singled out De Niro himself and told him he “liked” when De Niro’s character kills Don Fanucci in The Godfather Part II. Definitely the right time to say that!

So De Niro gets up to present the award to Jolie and before diving into well-deserved Jolie-praise, he made his counterpoint.

“Whoever the last speaker was, I thought you were a bit condescending to us actors, celebrities. I’m gonna go on record with you just to say that. And I don’t give a f**k who you are.”

You’ll be able to hear more swearing and mind-speaking in January when Dirty Grandpa comes out.

One of my favourite movie stars, Robert De Niro has been quite prickly. He has paid his dues and he has shared his exceptional talents with us. I have no problem with his prickliness.
