‘Samurai Jack’ Is Back! And This Time It’s Personal

Earlier today Adult Swim teased the return of the cult favorite Samurai Jack with a 5-second trailer that has excited me more than any other 5-second thing has in my entire goddamn life. Look at this!

I am literally screaming.

Adult Swim is killing me by keeping almost all the other details to themselves, but we do know this:

  • Series creator Genndy Tartakovsky is involved and is continuing the original storyline.
  • The new season will run during Adult Swim’s Toonami programming block, which is usually just a bunch of anime.
  • NOTHING ELSE. NO ONE KNOWS ANYTHING I NEED MORE DETAILS IMMEDIATELY.

Samurai Jack aired on Cartoon Network from 2001 to 2004, and when it was cancelled the world fell into deep mourning. Tartakovsky’s unique, dark, highly-stylized, and trippy homage to samurai cinema followed the adventures of Jack, a legendary samurai from feudal Japan that got tossed into the far future by a shape-shifting demon.  Reruns of Samurai Jack have been airing since last year, which makes sense because 1) it’s amazing and 2) it’s best appreciated by people who are old enough to get high as balls while they watch it.
