Instagram is the hub of showing off your expertly edited photos, yummy meals and #squadgoals that aid in the growing depression and feeling of inferiority in your peers. But according to Instagram‘s top 10 most liked photos of the year, that’s not what’s going to get you likes. Do we throw in the towel? Do we surrender? Is it time to finally resign to the fact that all of the trending people are doomed to be the same Swifts, Jenners and other 1%, white, able-bodied women with Victoria Secret Angel figures, cats, and famous beaus?
Today’s Pop Culture adds,
The popular social media app released the 10-most liked photos on its platform for the year, and female celebrities are behind each and every one.
While Taylor Swift may be responsible for half of Instagram’s top 10 list, Kendall Jenner took the top spot when she posted a unique shot of her hair and racked up more than 3.2 million likes.
Normally, I’d be on the edge of my seat elated at the sheer news of a list published encompassing entirely women, but the list boasts a little more than a score of zero in the diversity category. Taylor Swift has FIVE of the ten most liked Instagram photos of the year.
Three of the top 10 photos are expertly lit and posed photos of the Jenner super sisters, but if you thought their influence on the list was only 3 out of 10–Taylor Swift’s most liked photo of the year (standing at number 2 with 2.6 million likes) is a grainy photo of Swift receiving her gift from none other than Jenner brother-in-law, Dr. Kanye West. *proceeds to bow down to the First Family*
If you’re not already disappointed by the repetitive nature of the list, my 2004 digital camera takes better quality photos than all of Taylor Swift’s most liked.
Kendall, your hair is really boring me.
If that doesn’t do it –
Let me repeat again, really let it sink in, there is no food.
