Ryan Reynolds Played the Wrong Song to Blake Lively While She Was in Labor

While on the usual late night promotional tour for his upcoming film, Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers. In a brief non sequitur, the late night host steered the conversation away from film promotion and towards the more personal life of the actor. With Meyers expecting his first child with wife and human rights lawyer, Alexi Ashe, the line of questioning was less invasive than one might normally expect.

Ryan Reynolds–the hunky personification of his character–chose to lighten the mood for his laboring wife, Blake Lively, by playing Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.” As one would not be with stabbing contractions and pumping hormones, Reynolds reveals Lively was not happy with his choice of music. He shares:

It was like steak knives came out of her eyes. Like, ‘Are you f–king s–tting me right now?’ Real bad, yeah. But she was a mercenary. I think I just caught her right in the middle of a contraction.

The conversation took a turn towards life from the initial grossness miracle of birth to new parent life. Meyers requested tips, and Reynolds delivered advice on how to be a half-decent human being:

Do the dirty work, man. You gotta do the diapers. You gotta do the middle of the night thing

As if it weren’t obvious. Be a good dad, Seth and maybe you’ll get half as much attention as Ryan Reynolds has in his life after child.
