Power Rangers Get a New Look for 2017’s ‘Power Rangers’, Are You a Fan Yet?

The Power Rangers haven gotten a makeover for their 2017 reboot. Gone are the days of cheap looking spandex with cheap plastic adhesives. Their new upgrades actually make them look like something we might run into in the not-so-distant future. Starring in the upcoming superhero classic will be Elizabeth Banks as villainous Rita Repulsa, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger.

The new look seems like more effort and care for the legacy of the Power Rangers than is standard for reboots and cheap franchises. In Entertainment Weekly, director Dean Israelite says this differentiation was paramount for him on this project and production designer Andrew Menzies was really thorough in that understanding:

It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume…Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.

All I’ve got to say is dope.
