The Deadliest Mass Shooting in the US Happened Sunday Morning at an Orlando Gay Club

Early Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida called Pulse, Omar Mateen, 29, armed himself with an assault rifle and pistol and opened fire at over 100 people. 50 people were killed and 53 were wounded in the attack . There was an hours long standoff before police shot and killed Mateen. During the hostage situation, clubgoers were calling 911 and posting tweets about their safety. Authorities believe it to be an act of terrorism and a hate crime.

Around the time of the attack, American-born Mateen called 911 pledging allegiance to ISIS and mentioned the Boston bombers. In an interview, his father said months ago Mateen became very angry at the sight of two men kissing.

Other reports say Mateen was interviewed by the FBI in 2013 and 2014. The investigation was inconclusive so there was no reason to keep it open.

Mateen worked private security for G4S and had a license to carry.

Soul crushing. Why does anyone give a damn about what two consenting adults do?
