We’re back to talking about Star Wars again. By now you know that an Episode VIII is well on the way to theaters by Christmas, but did you know that the whole thing was basically garbage and it’s being reshot?
Slash Film reports:
A few days ago, it was reported that Disney and Lucasfilm aren’t too keen on the dark tone of Gareth Edwards‘ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Apparently Disney believes the tone is too far removed from the original series and what director J.J. Abrams established with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so the studio ordered reshoots.
It was originally reported that writer/director Christopher McQuarrie would be the one supervising the reshoots, but that has since been revised. It seems Edwards still has the reigns.
Making Star Wars’ sources expect 40% of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be reshot, with 32 different sets recreated for the reshoots. Based on what they’ve heard — and, again, we’ll have to wait and see how much truth there is to this story — none of this sounds like Edwards’ fault.
The franchise is evolving. George Lucas has taken a major step back and given a lot of the direction to Disney and other Lucasfilm executives. It’s only natural that there would be some creative difference along the way about exactly how to continue to push Star Wars forward.
Even if Lucasfilm and Disney are unhappy with the tone of Rogue One: A Star Wars story, all along Edwards has been calling it a “war movie.” He’s telling a different kind of Star Wars story, so it only makes sense the tone isn’t the same as The Force Awakens.
Regardless, we’re still too far out to truly understand where the film lies in production. There’s a lot on the line when perpetuating an iconic piece of the American history and imagination. It could go wrong. But it could go so right.

Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII comes out next year, FYI… Your article is about Rogue One: A Star Wars anthology film.
I highly doubt they are reshooting 40% of the film when the release date is in six months time…
Please let the tone be darker. It is a war movie for hells sake. They need to let it be more modern.
And Star Wars could use an update. It is a great series, but is dated, and needs a refresher. Hoped Epi 7 would do it, but it was sort of crap. Not as good as the original, and really offered nothing new in terms of story. They can still skip the sex, nudity and cursing and still give it more of an edge.
