Twitter Slams Justin Timberlake for Cultural Appropriation

Actor Jesse Williams gave a speech after nabbing a BET award “for his continued efforts and steadfast commitment to furthering social change” that’s been turning some heads. Here’s some highlights courtesy of Billboard.

“This award is not for me…This is for the real organizers all over the country, the activist, the civil rights attorneys, the struggling parents, the families, the teachers, the students that are realizing that a system built to divide and impoverish and destroy us cannot stand if we do.

Nice.

“I got more, y’all. Yesterday would have been young Tamir Rice’s 14th birthday so I don’t want to hear any more about how far we’ve come when paid public servants can pull a drive-by on a 12-year-old playing alone in a park in broad daylight, killing him on television, and then going home to make a sandwich.”

F**k Hillary. F**k Trump. This guy for President. Damn

“We’ve been floating this country on credit for centuries, and we’re done watching and waiting while this invention called whiteness uses and abuses us, burying black people out of sight and out of mind while extracting our culture, our dollars, our entertainment like oil — black gold! — ghettoizing and demeaning our creations and stealing them, gentrifying our genius and then trying us on like costumes before discarding our bodies like rinds of strange fruit.”

So of course, Justin Timberlake took it upon his white ass to reply to all that like a goddamn Hallmark card that generically registered none of that and how he’s in on it on Twitter.

Obviously, Twitter wasn’t all that impressed.

Ohhhh snaaaaaap.

Kind of like a privileged golden retriever that understands that its owner is unhappy, but doesn’t understand that that its owner is unhappy because it pissed all over the floor, JT apologized with another tweet that shows he 0% gets any of this.

Thanks for your pseudo Rumi white boy bullshit JT.

So… no white people are allowed to make music that black people also make?

More like, people who haven’t contributed anything to their culture are trying to appropriate it as their own so they can whine about it.

If these lost souls get bored enough, I wonder if they’re going to try to ride the Appropriation Train to the culinary world. Handfuls of unemployed whiners picketing white restaurants that dare to cook ethnic food. So much potential outrage for the pickins!
