Banksy Could Be Anyone Or Everyone, Even This Dude

25 years ago, Banksy was born. The street artist sworn to secrecy, or fear of showing the world an ugly face, or true understanding of marketing strategy, has gained fame for his poignant graffiti all across the globe. As such, theories on Banksy’s identity are a dime a dozen.

Now surfacing, all thanks to a shitty meme generated by The Daily Mail, is a theory that Banksy is actually Robert Del Naja (AKA 3D), founding-member of Bristol band, Massive Attack. Investigative journalist Craig Williams asserts that the appearance of new Banksy artwork in areas where Massive Attack has had shows has to be more than a coincidence.

Grab your tinfoil hats, folks! After putting together that terrible graphic, Williams took some time to actually think:

But what if Banksy isn’t the one person everyone thinks he is. What if Banksy is a group of people who have stencilling different locations both at home and abroad? Such a rich body of work done over a decade, across the globe, may allow for the suggestion.

3D has previously addressed his knowledge of Banksy’s identity and claims the two enjoy a friendship, which might just be a tongue-in-cheek allusion to his real identity as the mastermind behind a global horde of groupies with stencils.

If I knew keeping a secret could get me a million dollars for my art then I’d do it. Let the man/men/women/people/spray painting cats have their lucrative secret.
