According to a new study, smoking up might actually improve your night vision. A pharmacologist noticed in the 1990s that Jamaican fisherman had a bizarre ability to see in the dark, which inspired this latest round of research.
A bunch of scientists hung out and stuffed tadpoles eyes full of fake weed to see what would happen, and it turned out that it made their eyes way more sensitive to light. From Newser:
“We didn’t believe what we were seeing,” a study author told the Montreal Gazette. “The cannabinoids were increasing the excitability of cells in the eye that connects to the brain.”
A 2004 study even found that people had better night vision after smoking up, but it did not explore why. This new research means that weed could potentially be used to treat different eye conditions in the future.
We gotta legalize that s**t.
