‘Dr. Who’ Foreshadowed ‘Alternative Facts’

So did 1984 and almost every other scifi/dystopia piece of fiction out there.

Thanks nerds.

About 40 years ago today the classic episode of Doctor Who where The Doctor warns his companion of the dangers of people changing facts to suit their views came out. Fun fact: this episode was called “The Face of Evil Part 4.” Don’t think they knew that the irl face of evil would be orange, but whatever.

In the midst of a war, the Doctor’s companion Leela’s mind is taken over by a computer that’s worshipped as a god (fuckin nerds), and after setting her free he reminds both her and the audience:

“You know, the very powerful and the very stupid have one thing in common. They don’t alter their views to fit the facts. They alter the facts to fit their views.”

Looks like Donald Trump, who is banning government agencies from tweeting about global warming, and his team, who focuses on using “alternative facts” to unsuccessfully make it look like more than four people showed up to his disastrous inauguration, didn’t watch enough Doctor Who.
