Erin Andrews Kicked Cancer’s Ass

Erin Andrews has been through a lot in her career. She’s thrived in a male-dominated field, she’s been scrutinized for only getting jobs based on her looks, she was the victim of a peeping tom video, and she’s been diagnosed with cervical cancer.

She found out about the diagnosis in September, had the surgery in October, and was back on the sidelines five days later.

From the MMQB:

“After the trial everyone kept telling me, ‘You’re so strong, for going through all of this, for holding down a job in football, for being the only woman on the crew,’ ” Andrews says. Finally I got to the point where I believed it too. ‘Hey, I have cancer, but dammit, I am strong, and I can do this.’ ”

It’s easy to look at Erin Andrews as “the hot chick on the sidelines” but she’s gone through some really tough s**t in her life. She has a dream job and gets to do a ton of cool things, but the stalker incident and cancer are no joke. NFL players agree. Andrews interviewed Packers receiver Randall Cobb before the Packers-Falcons game in October. Before she started, Cobb asked how she was dealing with the cancer.

“Yeah, yeah, I’ll get there [referring to the interview],” Cobb answered. “But how are you?” There was a pause. “You know, I never told you this,” he continued, “but I never really understood what you went through. I knew bits and pieces, but after following the trial, I just wanted to tell you I have a new respect for you.”

Let this be a lesson to aspiring female sports reporters. You can look as good as you want, but if you aren’t Erin Andrews tough, things don’t come as easy as she makes it look.
