Oscar-Nominated Iranian Film Star Boycotting the Oscars in Protest of Trump’s ‘Racist’ Ban

Turns out Trump has found a way to make even the Oscars difficult.

After Trump proposed new immigration restrictions on refugees and some people with visas from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen, Iran’s biggest star is now protesting the event.

Taraneh Alidoosti is considered one of Iran’s finest actress and stars in The Salesman, which happens to be nominated for Best Foreign Film. Though she’s not sure if the ban would affect her in time for the ceremony, she still won’t be attending out of protest.

“Trump’s visa ban for Iranians is racist,” Alidoosti tweeted.

After Meryl Streep’s damning speech against Trump at the Golden Globes and this latest boycott, it seems that the Donald doesn’t have too many friends in Hollywood.

It’s unlikely Taraneh’s boycott will lead to any meaningful change since you probably didn’t know who she was ’til you read this article. But if any other actors follow suit, we may have a very empty Oscars. It’s doubtful though, cause as much as celebs hate Trump, they love patting themselves on the back much, much more.
