The Fate of the Furious, number eight in the Fast and Furious franchise, is breaking hella records globally. After debuting this weekend, the film raked in $532.5 million across the world. This just gets the one up on the previously record-breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which took in $529 million, according to The Verge.
Domestically, The Fate of the Furious only took in $100.2 million and owes most of its international market boom to China.
In China, they are apparently lining up for this s**t, as it made more there than it did here. This is really paving the way for what will eventually happen in Hollywood. I’ll bet you ten dollars they stop making movies for American audiences altogether once they realize that there’s way more people in China and way more money to be made off of them than us.
We are maybe ten years away from that. Maybe.
Look out for more fast cars and bad dialogue in 2019 and 2021. But let’s be real, eventually these movies will just be in Chinese. Who else is ready for Fast and Furious 45 in Shanghai?
