Try and Not Get Excited About These New ’13 Reasons Why’ Season 2 Details

13 Reasons Why was officially renewed for a second season this past weekend, exciting people like me who finished the first season over the weekend. While the season likely won’t come out until next year, that hasn’t stopped Netflix from already hyping it.

Allow me to take a deeper look. If you haven’t seen the first season, you’re probably not reading this post. But, if you are, I’m going to spoil a bunch of things. So, SPOILER ALERT!

1. So it would appear that Hannah will continue to be involved in the show, which is good, but now we’ll see different perspectives of the stories we’ve already seen. This reminds me a bit of The Affair, another show that I really enjoy. All throughout the first season we heard the characters say, “She wasn’t telling the whole story.” Even Clay was doubting at times. Now it looks like we’ll get the whole story. Or at least a different version, meaning the truth is somewhere in between.

2. Jessica’s story was the biggest in the first season. She was raped, she was in denial, she turned to drugs. She was an absolute wreck. How they handle her character in season two will be huge and they have to do it the right way. I expect her to be the central female figure as Hannah takes more of a secondary role.

3. My first theory is that Jessica will be the narrator for the reasons mentioned above. My second theory is that Tyler will be the narrator. Based on the final scenes of season one, I’m expecting him to shoot everyone at the school. His story could be the biggest story in season two.

4. This was explored a lot in the first season. But I guess we’ll get more of it.

5. “Hopefully” is the key word here. I don’t think he will. I think they’ll save that for the third season. Everyone wants to see Bryce get what’s coming to him, but there are so many other stories to touch on, that they can continue to slow build his punishment until fans can’t take it anymore.

Showrunner Brian Yorkey shared some season two details as well in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He repeated a lot of what Netflix highlighted above, but he did drop in this bit of information:

The tapes are still obviously on people’s minds, but there is a different sort of analog technology that plays a hugely important role in season 2. So the cassette tapes aren’t at the center of it — those two boxes of tapes are still hanging around and matter to people — but there will be a new piece of technology for 13-year-olds to Google and try to understand what it was.

I’m guessing Polaroids to tie in with Tyler.

Is it 2018 yet?
