More Trouble For ‘Han Solo’, Will Disney Shoot First?

The Han Solo movie has suddenly become an endless churn of headlines about how troubled the movie is. Well, add one more rumored problem to the project, which frankly didn’t need the extra drama. First, the movie loses its directors, now this. Word is, Disney is not happy with Alden Ehrenreich’s performance as the eponymous smuggler.

Sources say that Lucasfilm hired an acting coach- always a vote of confidence- well into filming. Apparently, Harrison Ford isn’t something you can just grow in a lab, though you can be certain Disney would if they could, and they are working on the technology.

That’s a bummer to hear because I like Ehrenreich. He was memorable and charming in the mostly forgettable Hail Caesar! which is remarkable considering that he had to upstage George Clooney in that.

But now the film sounds like it’s falling apart. It lost the directors, the star is in the cross-hairs, Disney is replacing editors- what the hell is going on over there?

There are only two things holding this movie together at this point. The first is Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, who last went into space with Apollo 13. Howard isn’t gonna be messing around. The other is casting Childish Gambino himself, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian. In the history of stunt casting, that’s inspired.

I’m still rooting for this movie, but they are going to have to do something drastic to turn this story around.
