‘Star Wars’ Han Solo Film in Safe Hands With Ron Howard

It didn’t take long for the Star Wars Han Solo film to find a new director. Days after Phil Lord and Chris Miller were booted due to “creative differences,” Lucasfilm and Disney have tapped Ron Howard to take the reigns.

Great, now Ron Howard is going to appear in the film as well.

The film is scheduled to shoot for three and a half more weeks with another five weeks of reshoots. Howard will meet with the cast shortly to “calm things” as he takes over.

Kathleen Kennedy released the following statement, welcoming Howard to the team:

“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began 40 years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew and the absolute commitment to make a great movie.”

It’s clear that the studio wanted to go with someone safe and trustworthy given the apparent headaches Lord and Miller caused. There’s nothing wrong with Howard, it’s just, he’s Ron Howard.

Before anyone decides to be “that guy” who points out the difference in direction in various scenes, let me save you the time. The scenes that are funny and different were done by Lord and Miller. The scenes that look like every other Star Wars film were done by Howard.
