Katy Perry Is Now ‘Woke’ Because Her Album is Out

Despite being a 32-year-old woman, Katy Perry honestly didn’t know she was doing anything wrong. Perry was a recent guest on “Pod Save The People,” a podcast hosted by Black Lives Matter activist Deray McKesson. During the interview, Perry admitted that she was naive when it came to cultural appropriation.

“I listened and I heard and I didn’t know,” she said, explaining how discussions with her friends, including her “empowered angel Cleo [Wade],” helped her understand. “I won’t ever understand some of those things because of who I am. I will never understand, but I can educate myself and that’s what I’m trying to do along the way.”

“She told me about the power in black women’s hair and how beautiful it is and the struggle,” Perry continued. “I didn’t know that I did it wrong until I heard people saying that I did it wrong. It takes someone to say, out of compassion, out of love, ‘Hey, this is what the origin is.’”

Perry was mainly referring to her hair style in the “This Is How We Do” video.

Ok, sure. But then please explain your dancing with Migos and your ill-advised Barack Obama joke. Both incidents happened in the last couple of months, so it’s tough to claim naivety on those.

Pretty much.
