No Soup for the ‘Soup Nazi’ Company

Many television shows and movies inspire restaurants.

That’s the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. He inspired a Staten Island company called Soupman Inc to make soup based on the recipe seen on the show. You don’t need to be a genius to figure out that basing your work off of someone with “Nazi” in their title won’t end well.

The company officially filed for bankruptcy this week. The announcement comes a month after this Chief Financial Officer was arrested cheating the government out of employee taxes.

The following report comes from Syracuse:

Last month, CFO Robert Bertrand was charged in Brooklyn federal court with failing to pay Medicare, Social Security and federal income taxes for company employees. The government said he paid employees unreported cash and gave some workers large unreported stock awards from 2010 through 2014.

According to the indictment, the total estimated tax loss to the Internal Revenue Service was $593,000.

What’s the deal with paying taxes anyway?
