Will We See a Badass Sansa Stark in ‘Game of Thrones’ Next Season? Maybe

We might be seeing a very different Sansa Stark when Game of Thrones starts up again. No, no – Sophie Turner is still playing her. They aren’t pulling a Fresh Prince of Bel-Air/Aunt Viv moment.

No, her character might be very different. Instead of having the world constantly crap on her, she may be fighting back with some courage. That’s what Turner hinted about, at least.

“[Sansa has changed] from being a naive, vulnerable innocent young woman and being such an underdog… to being a leader, powerful and hungry for revenge from the people who have done her family wrong,” Turner said.

Though there’s always a game of trying to tell if these actors are true to their word. Remember when Kit Harington kept telling us that Jon Snow was really dead? Yup. Yup.

It seems like the persons running the show are competing with Kurt Sutter to see how cruelly they can treat their characters. The actors must be white-knuckled when they open their scripts each week. “Phew. I made it… Wow! I can’t believe this person dies like THAT! Who thinks up stuff like this?” I know that things like this keep the audience interested – it’d be boring, but dang… a lot of these actors must live out of their suitcases.

Turner also hints that Sansa might go down a dark path.

“They’re both so family-obsessed and family-oriented, and will do anything for the people they love,” Turner said, “I can totally see her becoming a Cersei and kind of driven mad by it, by the threats against her family. At the end of the day, that’s why she does the things that she does, because she’s terrified of losing the people she loves. And so she’ll stop at nothing to protect them.”

“If that means becoming like a ruthless killer, leader, sadistic woman or evil lady, then so be it. I don’t think it matters to her, and I can see Sansa swinging that way too.”

Well, it seems like EVERY path on that show is dark, so there’s nothing new there. She was very heroic at the end of the last season, and it seems like George RR Martin and the other people involved with the show can’t stand that. So, it wouldn’t be very surprising to see her head become separated from her shoulders at some point. Then again, she might be like the heroine at the end of horror movies – surviving until the credits and then realizing that she’s still living in a very dangerous world.

Whatever happens with her and the rest of the Starks/LannistersTargeerys/Whoevers, you can bet that a LOT of people are going to be watching it. Then they can wait for any possible spinoffs or prequel shows. Hey, if Better Call Saul can pull it off…
