Caitlyn Jenner Considering a Senate Run

Caitlyn Jenner was on AM radio yesterday and she said she was considering running for the Senate. What could go wrong with a minor celebrity from California running for office as a Republican? Although unlike Ronald Reagan, Caitlyn Jenner doesn’t have Alzheimer’s and she’s never illegally sold weapons to Iran… that we know of. I have my eye on you, Jenner, we know you’re basically a Kardashian.

Jenner said “The perception of the Republican Party is that they are all about rich white guys trying to make money.” Which is true, the Republican Party is all about putting rich white guys ahead of everyone else. Right this second they’re trying to cut Medicaid to give tax cuts to millionaires. She went on to add, “I would hope in the next generation … that we can change the perception of the Republican Party and make it the party of equality.”

I hate to be the one to break it to her, but we already have a political party that puts the interests of the rich above the poor and middle class while paying lip service to minority causes, provided those causes are politically expedient. They’re called the Democrats.

If Jenner did decide to run for the Senate, the next opportunity to do so in California would be in 2018 when four-term Democratic incumbent Diane Feinstein is up for re-election. Feinstein made headlines recently by stating her opposition to single-payer healthcare, putting her at odds with fellow Senator Bernie Sanders, the most popular politician in the country by a wide margin. Feinstein has also been hostile to legalizing marijuana and has embraced the mass surveillance of citizens. It’s hard to see where Jenner will have room to run to the right of Diane Feinstein.

If she decides not to run in 2018, the next Senate election in California isn’t until 2022, when former California Attorney General Kamala Harris is up for re-election. Harris is somehow inexplicably popular with Democrats who want her to run for president in 2020 to block another run by Bernie Sanders, who is, once again, the most popular politician in the country. As Attorney General, Kamala Harris’s office argued against early release of non-violent offenders to ease prison overcrowding because those prisoners are a “important labor pool”. Unpaid labor, specifically.

I’m starting to think that maybe Kid Rock and Caitlyn Jenner wouldn’t be that bad as Senators. We elected Donald Trump president after all, can either of them be any worse than him? Okay, Kid Rock would be worse. But Caitlyn Jenner was on Wheaties boxes and is actually pretty smart. Not smart enough to stay the hell away from Kris Kardashian in the 90’s, but back then her kids were children and no one knew how horrible they’d grow up to be.
