‘Star Wars’ Monopoly Decides Rey Isn’t Good Enough for Their Board Game

Rey is the main character in the Star Wars franchise reboot, but she’s not popular enough to be immortalized as her own Monopoly figure.

Annie Rose Goldman, a very smart 8-year-old, wrote the following letter to Hasbro upon finding out that there was no Rey figure in her Star Wars Monopoly set.

Hasbro promised to include Rey in the next set with a spokesperson saying, “We love the passion fans have for Rey, and are happy to announce that we will be making a running change to include her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game available later this year.”

And then. They didn’t.

The company cited “insufficient interest” as to why they continued to leave Rey out of the game.

Did they send a survey to every 8-year-old in America asking them if they would use the Rey figure in order to make this conclusion? No one ever picked the damn thimble when I played Monopoly as a kid, but they kept including that stupid figure.

I know everyone will make this about gender, and it’s likely about gender, but it’s also about stupidity. Rey is the main character in the reboot. How dumb do you have to be to not include the main character as part of your board game? “Get the new Lara Croft playset!*”

*”Lara Croft not included”

Are people not buying the game because Rey is included? This whole thing is stupid and Hasbro should be ashamed that they’ve upset a well-intentioned 8-year-old.
