Chloe Bennet Kicks Instagram User In The Wang

You may know Chloe Bennet from her role in ABC’s Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but did you know that her real name is Chloe Wang?

She was called out on this by an Instagram user, who took exception to her praising Ed Skrein for his decision to not play an Asian. Bennet, who I assume plays a no-nonsense ass kicker on the ABC show because that’s every Marvel character ever, responded:

“Changing my last name doesn’t change the fact that my BLOOD is half Chinese, that I lived in China, speak Mandarin or that I was culturally raised both American and Chinese. It means I had to pay my rent, and Hollywood is racist and wouldn’t cast me with a last name that made them uncomfortable.”

That last line is sharp. I don’t think it’ll change anything in Hollywood because they’re still casting Matt Damon as a Chinese guy, but it’s still an extremely sharp line that should have people taking notice.

She continued:

I’m doing everything I can, with the platform I have, to make sure no one has to change their name again, just so they can get work. So kindly love, f**k off.”

I’m not sure she’s really doing everything she can given that this is the first I’ve heard of her name change and I never read headlines that say, “Chloe Bennet speaks out against white people cast as black men.” But I’m not getting on Bennet’s bad side. She’s officially perfect and I love her.

The Instagram post has since been deleted, which leads a little credence to my “she’s not doing everything she can” theory. Leave the post up so everyone can see it. I know nothing dies on the internet, but deleting the post makes it look like you have something to hide.

So kindly Chloe, keep kicking ass and expose Hollywood for being trash.
