Diplo Is Desperate for Rihanna’s Approval

Some guy named Diplo, who is only relevant because he dated Katy Perry for a hot minute and got ignored by Taylor Swift after trying to roast her, is back in the news.

This time, he tells the tale of when he hung out with Rihanna, Future, The Weeknd and Metro Boomin’ in the latest issues of GQ.

I think before we’re all done, (Rihanna) will be on a song of ours. Hopefully. But if not, I don’t really care. I played her “Lean On.” She was like, I don’t do house music. I face-palmed so hard on that one. Another time I had a session with her, and Future was also invited. The Weeknd was there. Metro Boomin was there before anybody knew who he was. I was so contact high. Future played her, like, 700 songs. It was four in the morning. Finally, I was like, Yo, G, I’m leaving unless you let me play her a song. So I played her a song. And she was like, This sounds like a reggae song at an airport. [laughs] I was like, I’m gonna go kill myself.

Nothing better than a guy who clearly cares about having Rihanna on a track saying, “If she’s not on a track, I don’t care.” He threatened to leave a studio session with Future, The Weeknd, and Metro Boomin’ if you couldn’t play Rihanna a song. His whole life depends on Rihanna doing a track with him.

Diplo shouldn’t hold his breath on getting Rihanna on a track. She already did a song with DJ Taylor Swift’s Ex. She has a loyalty to him.

I want to know if Diplo face-palmed because Rihanna said, “I don’t do house music” or because “Lean On” is a terrible track and he was embarrassed that he played it for her.

Don’t take things too hard, Diplo. Rihanna is currently dancing up a storm to reggae songs in the street at Crop Over Festival in Barbados. All you have to do is find a way to turn your airport and house music into street music.

Good luck.
