Ya’ll can’t f**k wit Cardi B if you wanted to.
While Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma spent the year arguing over who the greatest female rapper alive is, Cardi B is outchea scoring the first Billboard #1 for a female rapper in 20 years.
That settles that. It’s not Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma, Lil Kim, or Iggy Azalea. The greatest female rapper of all-time is Cardi B. And the greatest rap song of all-time, male or female, is “Bodak Yellow.”
The last female who scored a Billboard #1 without a feature was Lauryn Hill with “Doo Wop (That Thing).” I’m not a fan of any female rapper I just named above, but Missy Elliott was robbed. Every Missy Elliott song ever should have been #1.
Cardi B took down Taylor Swift and “Look What You Made Me Do,” which reigned for three weeks. While some want to turn this into a rivalry, it seems a little too early and random for that. Not only does Taylor’s consistency speak for itself, but why is it a rivalry? Aside from Cardi singing “Look What You Made Me Do” in the car there’s nothing of note between the two artists. They’re just two females making good music. We don’t need to manufacture a rivalry for clicks.

Instead, we should praise Cardi for making a good song. While Nicki Minaj is too busy trying to make catchy pop hits, Cardi B just did it. Nothing about “Bodak Yellow” says, “This song is going to get a ton of radio play.” But good songs get played on the radio and streamed because people like good music.
I’d go on to praise Cardi and “Bodak Yellow” even more, but this accomplishment is going to look meaningless in a month when Bhad Bhabie has the top five songs on the chart, proving that good music doesn’t really matter.
