‘Lethal Weapon’ Is in Trouble Because Clayne Crawford Thinks He’s Mel Gibson

Lethal Weapon is a show on FOX based on the popular movie series. The entire existence of the show is proof that Hollywood is out of ideas and the high ratings are proof that America loves nostalgia. The show is in its second season and a third season seemed like a foregone conclusion based on the ratings.

Not so fast, my friends.

According to Deadline, the behavior of Clayne Crawford (he plays the Mel Gibson role) has caused Warner Bros. and FOX to have second thoughts.

The report says Crawford “has a history of bad behavior” on the show and that “he has been disciplined several times over complaints of emotional abuse and creating a hostile environment.”

Instead of canceling the show, it’s possible the studio and network recast the role. Recasting the co-lead would be a drastic measure and a uncharted waters in a major network drama. We all know the swaparoo Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Aunt Viv) and Roseanne (Becky) pulled mid-series, but those were secondary characters in a comedy. Typically, if problems arise on set in a drama, they just kill off the character and move forward.

It’s possible the same thing happens on Lethal Weapon. It would certainly give the show a fresh feel and not so reliant on the movies.

FOX and Warner Bros. didn’t comment on the story. Danny Glover had this to say:
