At the glamorous Lafayette Parish School elementary school awards, hosted by teacher Jessica Bordlee, young child Hayden Albert took home “most talkative” and “class clown.” Many considered him the favorite for class clown, but most talkative was an upset win.
LaTosha Alexis, Hayden’s great-aunt, was not pleased with the outcome of either award. She took it up with the voting committee via Facebook.
I am highly disappointed with the inconsiderate decision that Jessica Bordlee (1st grade teacher at Evangeline Elementary School in Lafayette, Louisiana made on today). Out of all the awesome & excellent things happening with my Great-Nephew academically she could have honored him in, she presented him with two certificates. The 1st is for class clown & the 2nd is for most talkative.
This is my sister Shaneka’s grandbaby (my nephew Hakeem son) and I’m told the room went silent when Jessica Bordlee announced the certificates she created for him. My great nephew went up to retrieve his certificates as everyone sat in silence and waited. To make matters worse, Jessica Bordlee called Hayden back up at the end of the ceremony and said, “Oh! Hayden, I forgot your red nose”. Not wanting to disappoint his teacher, Hayden put on the red nose as everyone watched.
Let me tell you something Facebook. This woman publicly humiliated my great nephew and family. It is the teachers job to instill confidence and positivity in the child at a very early age (not just the parents). I am appalled because she really went above & beyond to try and have her audience to join in with her to humiliate my great Nephew but the audience was too embarrassed themselves while witnessing such behavior from a woman in power of little children.
I’m tagging her school that she work for in this post and I pray they take this cry-out for justice seriously and teach her that her behavior is unacceptable as a 1st grade teacher. She publicly humiliated him, she need to publicly apologise to everyone. She could have given him the most funny certificate and perhaps future motivational speaker. There need to be some action following her behavior.

The school responded, saying they would “recommend disciplinary action” against the teacher. The teacher apologized and claims the child asked for the red nose at the end of class.
Shaneka Hayes, who attended the ceremony, said, “Everything was just so quiet and people had these strange looks on their faces. People kept looking at me to see my reaction. I was so uncomfortable. When our children get certificates, we frame these. We keep these. Who wants to frame something like that?”
And this is why award shows are the worst.
