According to Variety, Miles Teller will play Goose’s son in the sequel. Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult were the other two names in consideration.
Of those three, Tom Cruise definitely got it right. Nicholas Hoult is low-key terrible, Glen Powell is whatever, but Miles Teller is a star. He can do the serious stuff that will likely be required because Tom Cruise is a very serious actor. And he can do the campy stuff that will definitely be part of the film because it’s a part of every Cruise film, even if it’s not intentional.
Teller survived the Fantastic Four reboot. Anyone who went on to make a decent movie after that disaster can be trusted in any situation. It’s why Michael B. Jordan is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood while Jamie Bell barely exists.
I have zero doubts about Teller’s ability to pull this off. I’m more worried about Cruise making a “try hard” movie and we end up getting Speed 2 instead of Creed.
Hopefully Miles already started working on his beach body because if there’s not another volleyball scene in the sequel, what is Cruise even doing?
Jamie Bell’s performance in Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool got him a BAFTA nom. I’d say he’s doing quite well for himself.
BOOO on your Jamie Bell comment. He’s been a well-respected, sought-after, BAFTA-nominated AND -winning actor for almost 20 years, working with some of the biggest names in film, including blockbuster AND independent filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, David Gordon Green, Lars Von Trier, and so on. Do a little research before making such a flippant assumption. Just because he’s not in the Scientology family of campy frat-boy films doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist – it just means he has taste.
