Robin Wright Thinks Kevin Spacey Should Have a Second Chance

Out of everyone who got #metooed, Kevin Spacey almost got shunned harder than anyone else. I mean, Harvey Weinstein and Bill Cosby got it pretty bad, too, but Kevin Spacey had films he was in reshot to remove him. Meanwhile, Chris Hardwick is back hosting Talking Dead and Louis C.K. is doing drop-ins at The Chuckle Hut.

To be fair, Spacey tried to f**k a bunch of teenagers and sexually harassed basically every one of his employees. It’s not like he didn’t earn his exile from stardom. But his former House of Cards co-star Robin Wright told Net-A-Porter she thinks he should get a second chance. Kind of.

We sit in silence for a moment. Then, gingerly, I ask a final question about Spacey: does she feel he deserves a career reprieve? “I don’t know how to comment on that, I really don’t,” she starts. “I believe every human being has the ability to reform. Has the ability to reform. In that sense, second chances, or whatever you are going to call it – absolutely, I believe in that. It’s called growth.”

I mean, it’s a lovely sentiment and it’s true that people can grow and change and not grope every PA or sophomore swim team member that walks past you. It’s within the realm of possibility.

But here’s another thing to consider. Kevin Spacey has a net worth, according to Google, of $100 million. He doesn’t need to bag groceries at Trader Joe’s to make ends meet. He can retire and move to one of those countries Asia Argento was talking about where the age of consent is 15 and we as a society don’t lose anything.

I mean, sure, Kevin Spacey is a great actor, but there are loads of great actors in the world. There are far more actors as good as Kevin Spacey than there are roles for great actors. I mean, I still like The Usual Suspects but I’ll be fine if Kevin Spacey never does another movie and so will Kevin Spacey.
