He recently sat down with Cazzie David on his unofficial Instagram Live show “Current Mood.” David, you’ll recall, is no stranger to major tea, starring in her own mini-drama this summer as the girlfriend Pete Davidson ditched to pursue his whirlwind and now fizzled out romance to Ariana Grande. The live starts out on a charming foot as the two banter and riffle through viewer comments. But soon enough, Grande takes Mayer to task with some burning questions. Here’s what we learned:
He’s definitely serenaded a partner
David asked if a girl ever requested Mayer to play his music during sexy times. While he hasn’t multi-tasked that way during the act itself, Mayer admitted to acquiescing to some crooning requests leading up to the act. Mayer responded, “I probably did in my early 20s, I probably used my music to hook up a couple times. It doesn’t make it any less from the heart.”
He hasn’t loved himself to his own tunes
David kicked off the video by asking if Mayer ever pleasured himself to his own music. Mayer responded that he doesn’t really touch himself to any music. “In what world do you imagine that a man would masturbate to his own music?”
His sex frequency is lower than you think
David closed out her personal question streak asking Mayer if his number of sexual partners is greater than 800. Mayer feigned a little shock, saying the real number is less than 500. Not bad, but for a rich and famous dude, he definitely could have racked up twice that much. Mayer says the experience is like being a hot girl, and that he’s “less desirous of unsheathing new body parts.”

Somehow among all this, Mayer also managed to relay a little history about Japanese confection Hi-Chew during a tangent about candy. Mayer revealed he bought his first wah pedal in quarters from selling Blow Pops for 25 cents a piece, and is a big Googler of random facts.
And sure, he thinks your body is a wonderland
Mayer expressed a little frustration at his first major ditty still being his most famous and most quotable song. “This fucking song of mine…three and a half minutes at the age of 21…” However, he also maintained a generally good humor about it, and that he usually plays along, whether it’s a drunk dude yelling it from across the street or a girl after a show. After answering the question, Mayer told David her body was also a wonderland.
