Kanye West Wants to Bring Donald Trump and Colin Kaepernick Together

NBC / SNL

Kanye West is an… interesting person. If you hadn’t realized that before, you probably figured it out when he went on Saturday Night Live dressed up like a giant bottle of Perrier.

By the way, doesn’t Kanye look like an adorable toddler about to go trick or treating in that costume? I know he’s a 40-year-old adult with his own children, but I just want to pinch his cheeks, he’s so cute. That is like the cat in a hoodie of rappers.

Kanye is also about as naive as a toddler. He told TMZ he wants to bring Donald Trump and Colin Kaepernick together for a “peace summit.” This would presumably be like the time President Obama had Professor Henry Louis Gates and the cop who arrested him for trying to open his own front door to the White House and it ended police racism.

Only it didn’t, things have only gotten worse since then, which is why Kaepernick was kneeling. Donald Trump is, let’s face it, either too stupid or too stubborn to believe that and considered it a grave insult to the military who no one mentioned at all besides him and some talking heads on Fox News.

This is never going to happen because, at the very least, Donald Trump needs to keep publicly hating Kaepernick to play to his base. Kaepernick doesn’t need to hate Donald Trump, but going around wearing a MAGA hat probably wouldn’t be the best thing for his personal brand. Look at what it’s done for Kanye’s.

It may seem odd that Kanye likes two such disparate people, but it actually makes perfect sense. Kanye is rich, and while Trump has used all sort of low-key and not-so low-key racist rhetoric as president, all he’s actually accomplished in two years is cutting taxes for the rich. Kanye is also black, and police brutality against unarmed black men doesn’t just affect the poor. Even famous black men, like Sterling Brown, are subject to being brutalized by the police for minor offenses.

Kanye West is what happens when you let a dumb rich person think he’s a genius free-thinker. Well, Kanye and Elon Musk. Kanye’s not a bad guy the way Elon Musk is, he’s just in way over his head and refuses to believe he doesn’t understand everything. Kind of like Donald Trump, actually.
