Rihanna Declined the Super Bowl Halftime Show, Sticking Football Lovers With Maroon 5

If the NFL had its head even slightly pulled out of its ass on the whole kneeling during the National Anthem thing, we could have had a performer with actual talent doing the Super Bowl halftime show instead of Maroon 5.

Us Weekly reported that Rihanna turned down the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show to show solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.

“The NFL and CBS really wanted Rihanna to be next year’s performer in Atlanta,” the insider reveals. “They offered it to her, but she said no because of the kneeling controversy. She doesn’t agree with the NFL’s stance.”

That’s because, and don’t freak out, the NFL’s stance is dumb. If they want to solve the problem, just keep the teams in the locker room until after the anthem. Problem solved.

The NFL is worried about losing viewers if players protest police brutality during the anthem, but Colin Kaepernick had one of the best-selling jerseys last year without even playing, the only player in the top 50 for merchandise sales that wasn’t on any team’s roster. And I’m sure a lot people want to see Rihanna than Maroon 5. Maybe they should start worrying about that. Well, that and the fact that despite the fact that tackling a quarterback is against the rules now, basically everyone who ever played a snap in the NFL has CTE now.
