Ahh, Keanu Reeves. We love him when he’s going berserk on a bunch of dudes for killing his dog and we love him when he’s sad. Get ready to love Keanu Reeves as a video game character.
This weekend was The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, the huge conference where video game companies make their biggest announcements of the year. Stuff like Microsoft bought Double Fine or Nintendo is still cranking out the same Pokemon game with the same formula and slightly upgraded graphics year after year or Sony is requiring all female characters in Playstation games to wear burqas. Normal stuff.
This year, however, we got news that there’s a Keanu Reeves videogame. Cyberpunk 2077 already had a lot of hype around it, it’s basically a sci-fi version of The Witcher, a super popular open-world fantasy game. The E3 trailer revealed that the partner to your customizable main character is none other than Keanu Reeves himself, and they absolutely do not want you to miss that fact.
There’s really no point in hiring Keanu Reeves to be in your video game if you don’t make his character look and sound exactly like Keanu Reeves, is there?
Ars Technica reported that after the trailer, Reeves was onhand to hype the game.
“I’ve got to talk to you about something,” Reeves said to a roaring crowd after his surprise appearance. “CD Project Red, a while back, they approached me and asked me to be part of their project.” After describing the studio’s sales pitch about a massive quest, Reeves explained why he joined the project: “I’m always drawn to fascinating stories.”
Bill and Ted’s Excellent Midlife Crisis isn’t going to fund itself, after all.
