Why The Hell Did Hilary Duff Pierce Her Baby’s Ears?

There’s been a debate going on about babies and consent and optional cosmetic procedures recently. No, it’s not about whether or not we should routinely cut off part of every newborn baby boy’s dick, only weirdos care about that, this is about something important: piercing a baby’s ears.

Hilary Duff recently revealed that she had her infant daughter’s ears pierced and boy do people have strong opinions about this. You know those holes will close up if you take the earrings out long enough, even after years, right?

Duff got some angry comments on her post that read like this:

I can’t believe someone who seemed so screwed on pierced her babies ears. Causing unnecessary pain that isn’t for medical reasons done by a fully qualified medical professional is child abuse in my eyes. The risks are unreal and that throbbing pain in her ears no matter how happy and looked after your child is just isn’t justified.

And this:

Just wondering how she gave you consent to pierce her ears? unfollowing

And maybe my personal favorite:

I can’t fathom why you would you think it’s okay to have your daughters ears pierced. Causing her a tremendous amount of pain and discomfort. Was she able to ask you have them pierced? Was she able to agree to have them pierced? Did she sit there with a smile on her face whilst a gun with a needle was placed on her ear? Did she say politely after, thank you? Or did she sit and cry and scream looking to you for comfort and to make it all better? And tell me how did it make you feel sitting there and watching her have pain inflicted on her unnecessarily?

That’s like some real baby torture porn right there. This lady is going to get a job writing the screenplay for Saw: Babies if this post is anything to go on.

Of course, a lot of people thought this was no big deal, like all of South America. This was actually the plot of an early episode of Modern Family, Gloria took Lily to get her ears pierced and Mitch and Cam freaked out about it.

I had to follow just so I could see these ignorant mom shamers on here with nothing better to do. There is absolutely no harm in piercing a babies ears. In the black community we do it when the baby is much younger than hers

My favorite of the supportive comments made a political point to go along with “who cares if a baby has pierced ears?”

Hey there are actual children in literal cages all about to get their ears pierced without consent. Everyone mad should get down to these facilities and bust them out.

Personally, I think it’s a little trashy to get a baby’s ears pierced. But most of my friends’ daughters started asking to get their ears pierced when they were like 5, so it’s probably not going to be an issue at all.
