When Disney began product on their live-action Aladdin movie, they wanted to use white actors for the main roles because they said it was impossible to find any Western Asian actors who can also sing and dance. But there’s good news for the company as they’ve finally figured out a way to have their all-white Aladdin with the announced spin off based on the character Prince Anders.
Wait, who the hell is Prince Anders? The summary of the plot of the movie on Wikipedia doesn’t even mention him, he’s just some incidental character who also wanted to marry Jasmine.
THR reported that Billy Magnussen, who played the character in the Aladdin film, pitched Disney the idea for the spin-off, which isn’t a sequel to Aladdin.
Social media users were quick to point out that the announcement came just on the heels of Mena Massoud, who played Aladdin, saying his phone hasn’t exactly been ringing off the hook since the film came out.
It isn’t entirely unprecedented for a minor character to get their own spin-off. Rozencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead was a very well-received play following the comic relief characters through Elsinore Castle during the events of Hamlet.
Of course, I don’t expect this movie to be of the same caliber as a Tom Stoppard play. I don’t even expect to be the same caliber as a Tyler Perry play.
The general reaction on the Internet has basically been “why?”
No one asked for more Prince Anders, Disney. Literally no one. Every single person I've talked to about the movie either doesn't remember him or thought he was annoying. This spinoff doesn't deserve to made in any way. pic.twitter.com/ycT5lH3nBD

But it’s probably going to be a big success because people will watch any dumb bullshit Disney puts out now because they’ve squeezed so much of their competition out of the market. For example, Disney made a live-action Aladdin movie that made a billion dollars. Who wanted that?
