Dave Chappelle Might Be Calling You to Talk About Andrew Yang

Voting in the primary to determine who the Democratic nominee for president starts in Iowa in just a few days and campaigns are pulling out all the stops, including celebrity endorsements. Frontrunner Bernie Sanders’ campaign touted an endorsement by podcasting king Joe Rogan while Christmas song butcher John Legend and Conan O’Brien’s sidekick Andy Richter announced their intention to vote for Elizabeth Warren if she’s still in the race by the time the California primary rolls around.

Andrew Yang, who has a small but loyal base of supporters and leans to the left of most of the field, is not in a great spot right now. Candidates need to get at least 15% of the vote in a state to be awarded any delegates, and Yang isn’t polling in double digits anywhere. But one of his supporters is going above and beyond for this candidate: Dave Chappelle.

While most celebrities just gave endorsements, Chappelle is performing a few concerts for Yang. Bernie Sanders has similar support from bands Bon Iver, Vampire Weekend and The Strokes, but Chappelle is going beyond even that and is calling people personally to get out the vote for Yang.

That’s dedication.

I don’t actually think Yang has much of a chance of actually winning, but I think he’s excited some people who normally aren’t engaged in politics and that’s great. Also he knows where he is and what day of the week it is so that puts him way ahead of both Biden and Trump.
