Everyone in the world has known Harvey Weinstein is a creepy for years and years, long before the Ronan Farrow story laying out his misdeeds was published. Seth MacFarlane was making casting couch jokes about Weinstein in 2013.
But Hillary Clinton claims she didn’t know, which is why he was a surrogate for her in 2016. The clip of Harvey on MSNBC calling Bernie Sanders a sexist has aged super well, let me tell you.
Awkward. Clinton, loser of the most winnable election in American history, has a biographical documentary coming to Hulu, and she told The Hollywood Reporter there was just no way she could have known about Weinstein.
Speaking of Hollywood, with his trial in the news right now, do you have regrets about your lengthy association with Harvey Weinstein?
How could we have known? He raised money for me, for the Obamas, for Democrats in general. And that at the time was something that everybody thought made sense. And of course, if all of us had known what we know now, it would have affected our behavior.
I mean, her husband is a rapist and she threatened his victims to keep silent and she used his high-profile affair with Monica Lewinsky to get him to bomb Yugoslavia. I sincerely doubt she would have cared about Weinstein if she’s telling the truth, and honestly, why would she start telling the truth now?
Clinton also took the time to attack Bernie Sanders, her rival in the 2016 primary.
In the doc, you’re brutally honest on Sanders: “He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him. Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done. He was a career politician. It’s all just baloney and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it.” That assessment still hold?
Yes, it does.
See, it’s funny because Bernie Sanders is, by any objective measure, the most popular politician in the country and Clinton’s favorability rating is somewhere between itchy sweaters and paper cuts.
One of the ways Harvey Weinstein was able to keep himself safe for so long was exploiting his connection with the Clintons to get the story killed, and we know Farrow had a hell of time getting it out, he was basically fired by NBC for pressing it. If Hillary Clinton was president, Farrow’s story may have stayed buried.
