Post Malone is Putting on a Nirvana Tribute Concert For Charity
Nirvana is the greatest rock band of all time and if you think it’s someone else you’re wrong. Oh, the Foo Fighters? Yeah, I like them, but wouldn’t their music sound better if Kurt Cobain was singing and Krist Novoselic was playing bass?
The fact that Nirvana is the greatest rock and of all time has me weary of how Post Malone’s tribute concert to the group is going to go. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot like getting a handjob from Captain Hook: sure, handjobs are great but there has to be someone better equipped to perform it.
Malone isn’t just doing this for shits and giggles, though, TMZ reports he’s raising money for COVID-19 relief.
Our sources say Post wanted to honor the Nirvana frontman this month, which marks the 26th anniversary of his death. In the same breath, he also wants to help out in the COVID-19 fight.
Post will have a donate button on his YouTube page on the day of the at-home special — which we’re told will be shot at his living room bar — and the cash will go toward the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organization — a newly-created org that uses funds to help train and equip communities to detect and fend off the virus on the ground. When Nirvana got the biggest stage they were ever on, their MTV Unplugged concert, they did mostly b-sides and covers of songs by bands like the Meat Puppets and the Vaselines, and a lot of those songs became hits because of it. It’ll be interesting to see what songs Malone chooses to perform.
It’ll be more interesting to see if he manages to do any of them justice. Like, it’s a good thing you’re doing and all but Kurt Cobain didn’t use autotune, Butch Vig had to talk Kurt into letting him double track his vocals by telling him John Lennon did it.
