When I was a kid, I never thought I’d grow up to one day write a story about how Drew Barrymore was being sued for ripping off the design of a throw pillow. That’s because at the time Barrymore was like six and blowing rails between takes on E.T. or whatever. And yet here we are, talking about Drew Barrymore’s dirty pillow money.
According to TMZ, a company called Rule of Three Studio is suing Barrymore and Walmart claiming that the design of their Turkish Plume pillows was stolen by the actress’s Flower Home line. And frankly, looking at the pictures TMZ has of both pillows, it’s a pretty exact match and they beat Walmart to market with the pattern by years.
The fabric designer claims Drew was bragging about coming up with patterns that aren’t her own … the studio thinks it’s rich Drew hawked the pillows by saying, “One of the things I’m most proud of is that every single one is completely our own and original—we created each print that we developed for the line.”
According to the docs, the fabric designer says it released its Turkish Plume pillows way back in 2015, and it wasn’t until last year that Walmart started selling the Barrymore collection.
I very much doubt Drew was involved in a anything more than putting her name on these pillows. Even though this seems very cut and dried and Walmart is an incredibly evil company, I kind of hope they win this one. Why?
BTW … the studio says their pillows retail for between $315 and $565.
Yeah, $600 for a throw pillow. You have throw pillows in your house somewhere, I’ll bet. Do you know why you have them? What are they for? Would you pay $600 for one? I think mine came free with my couch and they live in a dark corner of my living room. I feel like anyone selling pillows for $600 deserves to be ripped off by Walmart.
