‘No Time to Die’ Marketing Really Doubling Down on Claiming Lashana Lynch is 007

James Bond is 007. This is pretty much something that is never going to change. As long as there are James Bond movies he’ll be 007 and as long as they’re making 007 movies it will be James Bond.

Lashana Lynch did an interview with Harper’s Bazaar where she doubled down on the narrative that her character, Nomi, is 007 in No Time to Die. look, I was born at night but I wasn’t born last night, you’re not going to pull this over on me here. James Bond is always going to be 007, Thor is always going to be Thor and Bruce Wayne is always going to be Batman.

The Harper’s piece mentions over and over again that Lynch’s character is 007, but anyone with a brain has put together the main thrust of the plot already: James Bond retired and Nomi is the new 007, but Bond will be out of retirement and back to being 007 by the end of the movie. It’s really just that simple.

Interestingly, it doesn’t seem to be Lynch herself who is selling the narrative being pushed here, instead she’s just talking thoughtfully about bringing life to her character.

“A character that is too slick, a cast-iron figure? That’s completely against what I stand for,” says Lynch. ‘I didn’t want to waste an opportunity when it came to what Nomi might represent. I searched for at least one moment in the script where Black audience members would nod their heads, tutting at the reality but glad to see their real life represented. In every project I am part of, no matter the budget or genre, the Black experience that I’m presenting needs to be 100 per cent authentic.”
