Netflix’s Big Hit ‘Bridgerton’ is Also a Big Hit for Porn Sites

Netflix

There was a viral video a few years ago that featured actors and actresses excitedly explaining the roles they’d just been cast in, all of which depicted graphic and explicit sex acts, and the video ended “It’s not porn, it’s HBO,” a play on the network’s tagline of “It’s not TV, it’s HBO.”

This was made before Game of Thrones became afraid of sex and when Girls was making headlines for the ass-eating scene it included.

Netflix is not going to be outdone by HBO, and their new Regency-era period drama Bridgerton has gotten attention both from its Hamilton-esque embrace of historically inaccurate colorblind casting and its steamy sex scenes.

The latter is the cause of a lot of the show’s success but has also become a big problem for Netflix as porn sites are posting the hottest sex scenes and people are really into them.

According to The New York Post, this is troubling for Netflix, who wants you to rub one out to the show legally on your Netflix account and also to the show’s stars, who insist it’s not porn, it’s Netflix.

An insider from Netflix talked to The Sun about the situation.

Bridgerton’s sex scenes appearing alongside some of the most obscene material the web has to offer has sparked horror and anger. Raunchy set-pieces have contributed to the buzz but it is a prestige drama based on best-selling novels. To peddle scenes as pure smut is beyond the pale.

It’s been particularly distressing for Phoebe and Regé-Jean, two young actors who signed on for the role of a lifetime and did not consent to being exploited in this way. Netflix have been working tirelessly to hunt down pirates and eliminate misuse of their intellectual property. Anyone thinking about trying this will have the full force of the globe’s biggest streaming service against them.

Yeah, so keep in your pants until you launch the Netflix app. It’s classy that way.
