Ashley Graham is Tired of Answering Questions About Her Body

I would describe Ashley Graham is “slightly chubby” if I were pressed on the point; she’s a little thicker than what you’d think a model would be but probably thinner than most people you’ve actually met.

For some reason, this means people ask her about her size and body in pretty much every interview she does.

“How does it feel to be a slightly chubby model, Ashley?”

“Do you feel like a role model for all the super hot women and girls out there who are 10-15 pounds overweight?”

“So, you’re a model, yet I can’t see your rib cage, what’s up with that?”

”Does eating food instead of swallowing cotton balls to trick your stomach into thinking you’ve eaten something make modeling harder?”

We’ve all heard Graham field these sorts of questions, and it’s supposed to be empowering or something. #feminism #nofilter, right?

Graham is kind of over it, she tells The Wall Street Journal.

I hate that I constantly have to discuss my body, because I don’t know any man that has to do that. But what motivates me to continue to talk about my body is that I didn’t have someone talking about their body when I was young.

She does have a point there, no one has ever started an interview with Jack Black by saying “So Jack, you’re a fat sack of crap, does that make it hard to be a movie star?” We love you Jack, but you have to admit you’d be on a different career trajectory if you were a woman.

Although Ashley is perhaps in the wrong line of business if she doesn’t want to talk about her body. I get the point she’s making, but she is a model, most models have to talk about their bodies a lot. If she was an HR rep the only question she’d ever get about her body would be “Gee, Ashley, how do you stay so thin?”
