Britney Spears to Take the Stand Regarding her Conservatorship

Britney Spears is finally going to speak in court on her own behalf regarding her conservatorship, NBC News reports.

Spears’ attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, asked for the hearing when the court convened Tuesday to address matters about accounting and fees, which were pushed back to July for more information. It’s unclear what issues Spears will raise or whether she will ask to end her conservatorship.

“The conservatee, she has requested that I seek from the court a status hearing at which she can address the court directly,” Ingham said in a videoconference. “This does not relate to any of the matters on the calendar now, and it does not relate to the accounting or the fee issues.”

What does this mean? Well, Spears could ask that her conservatorship be ended. She could ask that her father Jamie be removed from his role as financial conservator. She could potentially ask for all sorts of changes to her arrangements.

The important thing here is that she gets to tell the court what she wants. That’s what really matters. We like to speculate and choose sides in these sorts of things, but at the end of the day Britney Spears should be the one deciding what’s best for Britney Spears. I can’t think of any reason for a judge to decide what she wants isn’t what’s in her best interest, especially since the “accounting and fees” issue mentioned is about her father spending her money to hire someone to do PR to make himself look better.

A lot of people have been saying “free Britney” and it’s now Britney’s chance to tell the court what she wants that to look like.
