Danny Masterson Can’t Take ‘No’ for an Answer

That ’70s Showstar Danny Masterson is desperate to get his rape case dismissed. A judge said sorry, but no, this week for the third time.

Masterson has been charged with three counts of rape by force or fear. He’s currently out on a $3.3 million bail and has pleaeded not guilty.

This specific dismissal is in the “Jane Doe 1” case against him.

His lawyer, Philip Cohen, argues that the length of time between when this case was first dismissed to when it was opened again created prejudice against Masterson.

In 2004, the district attorney elected not to purse Jane Doe 1’s case against Masterson. However, in 2016, the Los Angeles Police Department reopened her case.

I’m assuming this means all the media stories about Masterson’s alleged rapes has influenced people so much that Masterson can’t possibly get a fair trial.

It’s the third time the courts have declined Masterson’s request for dismissal. Judge Charlaine Olmedo dismissed it once in 2021. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ronald Coen dismissed it a second time and sent it back to Olmedo. She then dismissed it this third time.

Masterson’s trying everything to get out of this trial. Last year he claimed Leah Remini, former Scientologist (Masterson is currently part of the Church of Scientology), was influencing the prosecution and his accusers to “work against him.” Never knew Remini held such sway.

In case you forgot about Masterson and his alleged crimes:

The criminal complaint, filed last June [in 2021], alleges that Masterson raped a 23-year-old woman between January and December 2001. He is also charged with raping a woman who was 28 at the time and a 23-year-old woman he had invited to his home some time between October and December 2003, according to Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller.

Jane Doe 1’s case against Masterson start in October. Masterson is facing up to 45 years in prison.
