Seth Rogen Calls Out Washington Post Film Critic Ann Hornaday

Seth Green and Judd Apatow called out Washington Post film critic Ann Hornaday on Twitter late last night. This after she published an op-ed that implied Elliot Rodger’s killing spree in Isla Vista was a result of Hollywood’s constant escapist fantasies which include movies people like Seth Rogen make.

For generations, mass entertainment has been overwhelmingly controlled by white men, whose escapist fantasies so often revolve around vigilantism and sexual wish-fulfillment (often, if not always, featuring a steady through-line of casual misogyny). Rodger’s rampage may be a function of his own profound distress, but it also shows how a sexist movie monoculture can be toxic for women and men alike.

Especially with films that glamorize frat life like in Seth Rogen’s Neighbors.

How many students watch outsized frat-boy fantasies like Neighbors and feel, as Rodger did, unjustly shut out of college life that should be full of “sex and fun and pleasure”? How many men, raised on a steady diet of Judd Apatow comedies in which the shlubby arrested adolescent always gets the girl, find that those happy endings constantly elude them and conclude, “It’s not fair”?

To which Rogen replied:

Judd Apatow followed suit.

She has some points about sexism and female perspective in Hollywood but there’s no other way to say it. Ann Hornaday is an idiot.

Seth Rogen, is a menace.

And he did
“Contribute to the killings”
With his stupidity.

He lives in “Bizzaro World”

Where, a fat slob, who “does not shave”
Gets the gal.

That is stupid
That is ludicrous.

Every value of the bible
He spits on.

And by the way
Disgusting fat slobs
Who will not shave

DO NOT
Get the girl.

Period.
End of story.

Rocket
Do me this favor.

Take a second
And “look at him”.

Just
LOOK AT HIM.

Seth Rogen
I mean, look at the photo, just on THIS, article.

Look, at that face.
Look, at that “smirk”.

I mean, just on this article.

Look at his face
Don’t you just, want, to “WIPE OFF THAT SMIRK”?

I mean
He looks like a monkey.

A smiling
Smirking

Monkey.

Fat
Unshaven
With “a goofy hat”
To the side

Have you EVER
Seen anything, like that?

I have to go
VOMIT
Please excuse me.

Rocket

While I hurl.

Thank you
My dear.

Well, yeah, that scene in the movie is the 30 year old couple going to a frat house party on their street and looking like out of place, overly old guys trying to recapture their youth. The movie does not encourage their behavior, it portrays it as childish.
Citing “Neighbors” which actively discourages petty and pathetic behavior as something that encourages violence is disingenuous. “Superbad” would be a better example of what they are trying to put across, though equally wrong headed.

Holy smokers, come on, there can’t be a human, alive, who ACTUALLY, likes him. Can you imagine, a woman Having “to stand next to him”? That, would be one hell of a woman. To stand, next to that pig. And “She DOES NOT, love him” About as far As she could throw him. She, would have to be paid, in some way. And, you know, she does deserve the money. Her life, is ruined. She, “stood next to Seth Rogen” Like, she liked him. That Has to be worth “Several million dollars” I mean To throw her whole life away… Read more »

Of course, Seth Rogen, “gets laid”.
He has money.

You can ALWAYS, get some, at least, if you have money.
That is not the point.

The point is
“DO THEY LOVE HIM”?

OK?
That’s the point.

Do you think
Hugh Hefner

A man who looks like Barney Fife

Actually
Has a gal
That “likes him”?

No.

They are “contractually bound”
For a few years

To PRETEND
So

Same case here.
He gets laid.

Not the point.

They don’t love him.

Point.
