VHS Thief Finally Apprehended 14 Years Later

You could have warrants out for your arrest and never even know it. Ever borrow a book from the library, lose it or forget to return it? Ever rent a movie (you know… when we used to rent non-digital copies of things) and decide it’s best you keep it? That’s the story for one James Meyers, a Concord, NC resident who was on the way to drop his daughter off at school when he was pulled over for a broken tail light and found out there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Meyers recounted the incident in a video, so fortunately nothing tragic happened in the routine stop. Meyers says of the arrest:

The guy brings me to the back of the car and he goes, ‘Sir, I don’t know how to tell you this, but there’s a warrant out for your arrest from 2002. Apparently you rented a movie, ‘Freddy Got Fingered,’ and you never returned it.

And yes, because he’s a white man… everything went exactly according to plan. He was able to get back in the car and take his child to school and he was given the latitude to turn himself in by his own volition afterwards. He’s set to appear in court next month for a misdemeanor charge of failing to return hired property from J&J Video which like all video stores of the Blockbuster era is now shuddered.

And so a man and his stolen copy of Freddy Got Fingered live happily ever after.

Lol – because he’s a white man. OK, cite a source for a person of color who commited one offense, the offense of not returning a video, and got arrested for it and you can claim white privilege. Otherwise, gtfo.
