The B Street Band is Born to Run…Away from Trump’s Inauguration

Even the B team is backing out of the inauguration.

The Bruce Springsteen cover band “The B Street Band” has now bowed out of the January 19th Presidential Gala. The band says they’ve received tons of emails from both sides and were pretty overwhelmed.

Rolling Stone interviewed Will Forte (no, not that Will Forte) the keyboardist and manager of the band felt this Presidential Gala was not helping them out. “We’re standing out in the storm right here,” he told the band. “We gotta get out of the storm.”

Though the band claims to have no political affiliation, they want to honor the man that made their lives possible. Springsteen. Bruce has been very vocal about how much he hates the s**t out of Trump, so the band felt they were doing a disservice to the Boss.

We felt that we had to make it known that we didn’t want to seem disrespectful, in any way, shape or form, to Bruce and his music and his band,” Forte says. “I don’t want to upset them. We owe everything to him and our gratitude and respect to the band is imperative above all else. It became clear to us that this wasn’t working and we just had to do what we thought was the right thing to do and that was to pull out.

Why did the band sign up for the Gala in the first place? Well, they’ve played the Gala for both of Obama’s inaugurations and signed the contract to play the 2017 version in 2013. Since most people didn’t predict Trump would be President until he was actually elected, it’s easy to see how they got stuck.

Springsteen himself never commented on the B Street Band playing for Trump, but other members were not too pleased. Gary Tallent, a founding bassist of the E Street Band tweeted “Please tell me this is more fake news. Or at least a joke.”

Will Forte is really torn up by the whole situation.

I never thought the distortion of what we do as a band would’ve been so intense. I wish it never would’ve happened. We would’ve never got involved in this if I knew how this would turn out. I would trade in all the support and publicity just to go back to where we were four months ago. I don’t think they’ll ever be a cover band of our size in the history of music that will get the attention of something this big.

Now that they’ve bowed out, hopefully they can go back to playing Bruce songs and being happy they’re making any money as a cover band. Cause at the end of the day, according to Forte, “We’re just a fun band!”
